07/14 edit: Say goodbye to selfie sticks as the new OnePlus Nord will include an ultra-wide selfie camera

OnePlus company just announced that the new OnePlus Nord will be launched on the 21st of July. Direct competition with Google Pixel 4a and Apple iPhone SE 2020.

There were speculations regarding the new release however OnePlus confirmed on their own website.

OnePlus Nord is a middle-range smartphone and the prices are expected to be really low. We expect the new device to be half the price of the OnePlus 8. Could we get the same user experience at a half price? We will see!

OnePlus Nord vs Google Pixel vs iPhone SE 2020

OnePlus started an aggressive (in a positive manner) promotion of the new OnePlus Nord device. We can see daily interviews, trailers.
In an interview hosted by the Techradar website, Carl Pei (OnePlus co-founder) explained they fight with giants Google and Apple with their latest CPU Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G and a price under $500. Google is preparing to launch the new Pixel 4a smartphone. We’ve covered all technical details and leaks and is discontinuing its older generation Pixel 3a. Even it is discontinued, Pixel 3a still remains a good acquisition.

The Snapdragon 765G means that the new OnePlus could come with 5G connectivity. This is a high advantage in the battle with GooglePixel and iPhone SE 2020. We’ve covered all details for you to decide if iPhone SE 2 should be your next device.

The awareness and demand of 5G is highly increasing in 2020 and this means a large increase in 5G smartphones unit sales.

If you are thinking to purchase a device would you buy a “less than $500” device like OnePlus Nord for 5G, even that will cost you $100 more than what you have to pay for an iPhone SE2? If you plan to use the device for next years, 5G connectivity could be a wise decision.

OnePlus Nord technical details

From what we know so far, the OnePlus Nord smartphone is likely to have a dual camera setup with a 32MP primary sensor and an 8MP wide-angle sensor.

We expect the new OnePlus Nord to have a 6.55 inches Super AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate. Definitely, for such a low price, OnePlus Nord couldn’t come with a 120Hz refresh rate.

The new OnePlus Nord will have up to 12GB ram and Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G SoC. Although these specifications may be for a secondary model, not for the base OnePlus Nord, at a price around $500 these could be considered great tech specifications.

The OnePlus Nord battery could be a 4300 mAh battery and with 30W charger.

The selfie camera will be an ultra-wide 105-degree field of view, OnePlus confirmed the news on their Instagram official page.

Although the OnePlus hasn’t confirmed yet the selfie camera resolution, based on previous OnePlus news, there will be a dual selfie camera, probably one 8MP wide-angle camera and the main 32MP selfie camera.

Being a good looking device with an up to date processor, 5G connectivity and a low price, OnePlus Nord could be an attractive premise for people looking to buy a mid-market device.

OnePlus try to change the mind of customers that are not yet decided. They want you to buy OnePlus Nord instead of choosing an iPhone SE 2020 or if you are not willing to wait for the new Google Pixel 4a.

They also seem to try a bundle sell by adding their earbuds or other devices from the OnePlus ecosystem so this could be a wise decision.

The launch prepared for Europe and India where the mid-range smartphones are more popular. This make the US a less interesting market for OnePlus for a mid-range phone like OnePlus Nord.

We will definitely find out more on 21st July when OnePlus will launch the OnePlus Nord device. They will certainly leak more information on Twitter and Instagram feeds.
